Introduction
Several of IPP people have been having problems with delays in email. I'm running an experiment as follows:
- cron job every hour at :00 from exim4 and my desktop (so the email is user@(computer).ifa.hawaii.edu)
- sends an email (with date and time) to @gmail
- sends an email (with date and time) to @ifa
- record the time my gmail account receives the email
- record the time my ifa account receives the email
Plots
Here are daily plots of email delays (for ifa account) - note there have been no delays seen with the gmail account, also, the scale is set to 0 - 150 minutes. There are delays longer than 150 minutes, those show up on these plots as only 150.
This is a plot of how many times emails were delayed for each hour (out of 10 days). Worst times to send/receive emails are at 6am and 8am.
